A center for children with life threatening conditions.
Valeria Van Groningen Fundația HOSPICE Casa Speranței
I have started training and being involved in sports very early in my life. It was athletics at first but the greatest accomplishments and satisfactions have come from rowing, the sport to which I have dedicated a very important part of my life. I am still very active and … addicted to a sporting and healthy life style.
I am proud to be part of the team which started, developed and established the Bucharest International Marathon as one of the most popular and respected competitions in Romania.
Our family has a long history with HOSPICE Casa Sperantei. My husband, our children and myself have felt the need to get involved in this cause by volunteering, by helping raise the necessary funds for their projects and by offering our time, skills and knowledge to develop a much needed service in Romania and in surrounding countries.
I visited the centers developed by HOSPICE Casa Sperantei in Bucharest and we tried to help as much as we could. The need for a center dedicated to vulnerable children, children with life limiting and life threatening conditions but also their families is huge in Romania. I believe that by developing such a center we will create a model, a model that will be replicated in Romania and in the region. This is why I have decided to run the Los Angeles Marathon in the HOSPICE team.
For me, going back to Los Angeles has a special and deep significance, 30 years ago, also in LA, I participated at the Olympics and I won the gold medal in the single sculls(rowing)…it was an incredible and overwhelming moment. I hope that now, be going back to LA, WE will win a “gold medal” by participating and by laying the foundation of a great project, a project that will bring care and comfort to those who need it so much.
