This year I donate my birthday
Adina Florescu Fundația HOSPICE Casa Speranței
I've always been pretty big on gifts. For any holiday a surprise, for any surprise a smile, for every smile a hug. Because, ultimately, it's about that smile and that hug at the end.
My dad was never a big hugger, he was a tough cookie, afterall. But he smiled the most sincere smile, so rare but so meaningful, you knew you'd earned it. I grew up with his smiles and his life motto: Keep your head up, look forward and smile.
I've heard him smile on my birthday for the last 7 years, over the phone, a bittersweet smile, most of the times, one that longed and brought me longing. And I remember very clear one of his last smiles that I saw, a cheeky little one when the evening hospice nurse jokingly told him he'd get in trouble if he didn't eat all and sleep well.
The best gift you can give me this year is help and make a donation to Hospice Casa Sperantei, so that they can keep doing the hardest job without losing their sanity, and keep making that joke that brings a smile on the face of someone who doesn't have a lot left to smile about.
Thank you for sending a good thought out there, I guarantee there's a cheeky smile coming down your way, from wherever he may be now.
Mi-e dor de tine, tati.
